The UAE FTA has announced e-invoicing as part of its digital transformation agenda. While the exact mandatory date for all businesses is yet to be officially confirmed, the rollout is expected to begin with large VAT-registered businesses. We recommend all businesses start preparations now to avoid a last-minute rush.
KSA uses the Fatoora system based on ZATCA's proprietary platform with UBL 2.1 XML format. UAE is adopting the Peppol network (a global standard also used in Europe). Both require digital invoice generation, cryptographic stamping, and government clearance, but have different technical specifications and onboarding processes.
TallyPrime clients with an active Annual Maintenance Support (AMS) subscription will receive e-invoicing updates automatically. Without AMS, you'll need to upgrade your license. Books & Shelves can assess your current version and advise on the upgrade path.
KSA e-invoicing Phase 1 (Generation) required businesses to generate invoices in a specific digital format. Phase 2 (Integration) goes further — requiring real-time integration with ZATCA's platform via API, with each invoice cryptographically stamped and cleared by ZATCA before it's issued to the buyer.
Implementation costs depend on your current software, transaction volumes, and customization requirements.
